A PERSONALIZED IN-HOME PAIN CONSULTATION

Is your home quietly reinforcing your pain?

Painproof Your Home™ helps uncover the everyday habits, routines and environments that may be quietly shaping the way your body feels.

We transform those insights into practical, personalized strategies that help you make more confident decisions, reduce unnecessary setbacks, and create an everyday life that works with your body instead of against it.

A pair of hands gently adjusting cushions on a linen sofa in soft natural light
A pillow at the wrong height. A couch that swallows your hips. Small details, repeated daily — all easy fixes once you know how, for your unique situation.
A person working at a sunlit wooden desk
A desk a little too high. A chair that tips you forward. Hours spent here quietly teach your body how to hold itself — for better or worse.

The Quiet Problem

Most people never realize how much their home shapes the way their body feels.

Pain is rarely caused by a single moment. It accumulates — across thousands of small repetitions in the way your body meets the spaces and routines of daily life.

Over time, you may find yourself doing things differently, avoiding certain activities, or building little workarounds for what your body can tolerate.

  • Repetitive daily habits
  • How you sit on the couch
  • Sleep positioning
  • Workstation ergonomics
  • Kitchen mechanics
  • Driving posture
  • Pacing through your day

WHY I CREATED PAINPROOF YOUR HOME

Ya-Ling Liou

Author of the award-winning Everyday Pain Guide series

Creator of the Painproof Your Home approach

Portrait of Ya-Ling Liou, founder of Painproof Your Home
Ya-Ling Liou, Founder

For years, I've watched people work incredibly hard to manage their pain.

Many people understand their diagnosis. Many have received treatment. Many have been given exercises. Many have tried to follow good advice.

Yet they still spend hours every day sleeping, sitting, cooking, driving, working, and moving through environments that may unintentionally reinforce unnecessary pain triggers.

And sometimes the biggest change isn't that someone stops doing something completely. It's that they start doing it differently, cautiously, or less often — until they barely remember how effortless it used to feel.

At some point, I started asking a different question:

What if some of the most important opportunities for change aren't happening during appointments — but in the countless moments between them?

The way we sleep. The way we sit. The way we cook. The way we drive. The way we move through our homes every day.

That observation became the foundation of Painproof Your Home — built around a pain-smart approach to reducing unnecessary pain triggers through everyday habits, routines, and the way your body interacts with its environment.

I created this service to help bridge the gap between pain education and everyday life — by translating pain science into practical, personalized strategies that fit the realities of how people actually live.

A different way to think about everyday pain.

I created Painproof Your Home™ to help people understand what's happening between appointments—and discover practical changes that fit the way they actually live.

What You'll Walk Away With

A personalized roadmap designed around your home, your routines, and your pain challenges.

Every Painproof Your Home experience is personalized. Rather than overwhelming you with dozens of recommendations, I focus on identifying the changes most likely to make a meaningful difference in your everyday life.

Your plan may include practical recommendations related to how you sleep, sit, cook, work, drive, recover, and move through your day — along with guidance on where to start and what matters most. You'll leave with a clearer understanding of what may be contributing to your everyday pain—and more confidence about what to try, what to change, and what may not be worth changing.

A vintage brass compass resting on an unfolded topographic map, symbolizing a personalized path forward
No two bodies share the same terrain. Your plan is a route drawn for your landscape, not a generic map handed to everyone.

Hidden Pain Triggers

Identify everyday habits, positions, routines, and home setups that may be contributing to unnecessary strain or flare-ups.

Practical Modifications

Simple, realistic changes to daily activities such as sleeping, sitting, cooking, driving, working, lifting, and moving around the home.

Personalized Priorities

Clear guidance on which changes are likely to have the greatest impact based on your unique circumstances, goals, and current stage of healing.

Tools & Resources

Personalized recommendations, workbook resources, flare-up support strategies, and relevant sections from The Everyday Pain Guide series to help reinforce changes over time.

The goal isn't perfection.

The goal is learning what works for your body, your home, and the way you actually live.

Questions

A few things people often ask.

Is this medical treatment?+

No. Painproof Your Home is an educational and practical living consultation. It doesn't diagnose, treat, or replace care from your physician or other clinicians.

Who is this for?+

Adults navigating recurring pain, flare-ups, or stiffness who want practical, real-life support — especially those who feel like generic advice hasn't translated into their actual day.

Do I need chronic pain to benefit?+

Not at all. Many clients have asked for this service because they want to get ahead of patterns they're noticing, or to set up a home that supports recovery from training, caregiving, or long workdays.

Is this available virtually?+

Yes. A virtual format is available for clients outside the in-home service area (King County, WA), using guided video walkthroughs of your spaces and routines.

What kinds of changes are recommended?+

There is no standard list of recommended changes. Your recommendations will be shaped by your home, your routines, your priorities, and what we observe together about how your body interacts with your everyday environment. They may range from simple modifications using what you already have to carefully selected tools, props, or larger purchases when appropriate.
